All I wish for this Christmas is the gift of time….
Latest Blog Post
I encourage community members everywhere to treasure your time with loved ones this holiday season.
The best gift you can give is your time.
Time to sit close by one another, listen and talk….not always easy to do when the holiday “to do list” is forever present.
I love experiencing life through the eyes of a child. When I hang back a bit, a child usually walks and talks me through all their recent discoveries… a favourite ornament, song, book?
Here’s the important part, because it is what I do next that makes all the difference.
I say or do something that relates to their interests.
…. If a child is singing Jingle Bells, which might sound like “dingo ba”, I join in and sing along, maybe add in a few actions that make the song come alive…
“LAUGHING ALL THE WAY..HOHOHO”
…. If a child is pointing to an ornament, while saying “sparkle”, which might sound like “parkle”, I say “oh what a Sparkly ornament” maybe highlight “S” or add in a new word for the child to learn.
then we keep it going, until someone calls us for dinner..
My favourite poem …
(…go ahead print it out, put a ribbon on it!)
I Took His Hand and Followed
My dishes went unwashed today
I didn’t make my bed
I took his hand and followed
Where eager footsteps led
Oh Yes, we went adventuring
My little child and I
Exploring all the great outdoors
Beneath the sun and sky
We watched a robin feed her young
We climbed a sunlit hill
Saw cloud-sheep scamper through the sky
We plucked a daffodil.
That my house was so neglected
That I didn’t brush the stairs
In twenty years no one on earth
Will know or even care.
But that I’ve helped my little child
To noble adulthood grow
In twenty years the whole wide world
May look and see and know.
